Real-time data processing

Fraunhofer IPM has developed unique selling points in the sector of real-time data processing in recent years. We use both the advantages of hardware-oriented data evaluation on field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and cellular neural networks (CNNs) here, as well as those of processing on state-of-the-art, high-performance graphics adapters and multi-core CPU systems.

We establish the most efficient solution for every task on the basis of this wealth of expertise. Thus, in many cases it is only our expertise in the sector of ultra-fast image processing that allows us to meet certain requirements with regard to production rate, test specimen movement, diversity of characteristic features, etc. in the first place. Two examples here are the digital-holographic sealing surface inspection with 10 million evaluated 3D pixels per second and the 100% inspection of wire surfaces for microdefects at feed rates of up to 30 m/s.
