Fraunhofer IPM develops terahertz systems including novel emitters and detectors. The IPM scientists resort to their strong research background in optical systems and measurement technology, IR spectroscopy and the development of crystal and semiconductor based components in order to design compact THz systems ready for application. These systems can be used for process measurement, material analysis and testing or quality assurance. Other possible application areas are security technology and the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. Research is carried out in Freiburg and at the TU Kaiserslautern where the department Terahertz Measurement and Systems is located. IPM also cooperates with the University of Freiburg (Chair of Molecular and Optical Physics, Prof. Helm).
