More than 100 expert talks: Participants of the congress were able to obtain information about the latest developments in the field of sensors.

Latest technological developments in sensors, actuators, micro- and nanosystems were presented and discussed. Especially biosensors as well as biomedical and chemical sensors were main topics of this years’ EUROSENSORS. These sensors are used in bio-analytics, measurements of pollutants in the air or in liquids as well as in medical science for blood analysis and implants.

A varied and well-rounded program was launched with a get-together on Sunday. A lot was offered to about 550 participants: four plenary talks, eight keynote- and six invited talks by internationally renowned scientists and industry representatives. Lectures dealt with new sensors for applications in the automotive industry up to medicine technology; but also classical applications in gas sensor technology as e.g. process analyses were subject of discussion. Additionally, there were 100 expert talks and about 230 poster presentations. The conference was accompanied by an exhibition with more than 20 companies and institutions.

»During the past four days, our visitors were able to experience quite a lot of scientific and cultural highlights«, said Prof Dr. Jürgen Wöllenstein, Head of Department Gas and Process Technology at Fraunhofer IPM, drawing a positive conclusion from the top-class conference.

The main sponsors from the region were Endress+Hauser E+H Messtechnik GmbH+Co. KG from Weil am Rhein, their subsidiary company Innovative Sensor Technology IST AG from Switzerland and a spin-off company from IMTEK, the Jobst Technologies GmbH.

Following the conference, on September 10 the 6th Gas Sensor Workshop at Fraunhofer IPM will take place. New developments in the field of gas measurement techniques will be presented at this workshop.

Background:

EUROSENSORS addresses to scientists, students and industry representatives. The event, held in English, was initiated in Cambridge in 1987 and has since been held annually in different European countries. In Germany, the conference has taken place in Dresden, Munich and Karlsruhe so far.
