Doctorate with Fraunhofer IPM

General information

If you pursue your doctorate with Fraunhofer, you will be integrated into one of its institutes. You will be part of a department and work on your doctoral project within that department. Additionally, you will typically work on other thematically related research projects, which allows you to establish contacts in industry.

The doctorate is carried out at a cooperating university, usually at the University of Freiburg (see Professorships) with which Fraunhofer IPM has a strong connection. Doctoral degrees are awarded in accordance with the university's regulations. Prospective and current doctoral candidates can learn more about pursuing a doctorate with Fraunhofer by consulting the Code of Conduct.

Fraunhofer considers the qualification of doctoral candidates to be very important. All employees have the opportunity to participate in the Fraunhofer Training Program. Doctoral candidates at Fraunhofer IPM can also participate in our doctoral program.

Our doctoral program

We offer early career researchers the best research conditions and a wide range of support throughout their doctoral studies. This includes individual supervision by our researchers, as well as regular seminars on scientific methodology. Training for our doctoral candidates includes courses on supplementary skills, such as writing scientific articles for publications, rhetoric, and presentation techniques.

Our research equipment

The state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructure at Fraunhofer IPM allow doctoral candidates to conduct high-quality scientific research.

Successful doctorates

Our young scientists regularly receive recognition for their exceptional performance. For example, they are awarded the Hugo Geiger Prize by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs for outstanding doctoral achievements in applied research. Exceptional master's theses have also been acknowledged, and the recipients went on to successfully complete their doctorates.
