Our research focuses on physical technologies, particularly photonic technologies. We develop new methods of analyzing measurement data to maximize its potential.

This allows us to develop solutions that promote an efficient use of resources, as well as quality and reliability.

There are four departments, organized into 13 groups, with specialized expertise in their respective subject areas.

We have a wide range of technical equipment to characterize gases, liquids, and solids and to process materials.

Fraunhofer IPM works closely with the University of Freiburg, maintaining several professorships and a wide range of teaching activities.
