Measurement systems and process chains for digital twins

The Fraunhofer Society demonstrates how digital technologies can increase the efficiency, sustainability, and connectivity of the construction industry. At the trade fair, four Fraunhofer institutes will present innovative solutions for every stage of the construction process – from data acquisition and planning to energy-efficient implementation and automated assembly.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques IPM paves the way for the digital process chain. It shows how measurement systems and intelligent data evaluation strategies generate precise, connected data that can be used to create digital twins of buildings or structural infrastructure.

The MUM mini (Mobile Urban Mapping System), a sensor system developed by Fraunhofer IPM, provides the basis for many planning processes. The measuring box can be mounted on any vehicle and generates classified 3D environmental data. This makes it possible to capture highly accurate digital infrastructure data at shorter intervals and make it immediately available for digital city models.
