Mobile Urban Mapping System mini (MUM mini)

The Mobile Urban Mapping System mini (MUM mini) is a compact, modular measurement box that can be mounted on vehicles of any size or shape. It allows cabs, delivery trucks, refuse collection vehicles, and streetcars to be equipped with sensor technology, turning them into measuring vehicles. These vehicles circulate regularly, providing updated georeferenced environmental data on the go.

Real-time data evaluation

The MUM mini multi-sensor system uses several color cameras and laser scanners to capture the environment. The system also includes a positioning unit, a processing unit, and a data storage unit.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is used to interpret the data semantically. As a unique feature, the data is processed in real time on the device, making it immediately available after data acquisition. The highly accurate calibration of all sensors ensures flawless augmentation of the image data with the depth information included in the scanner data. All system components are housed in a compact, robust box that can be easily mounted on a vehicle’s roof.

Data set includes enriched information

An enriched 3D dataset is available to the customer directly after the measurement. This dataset comprises classified urban infrastructure objects such as streets, lamps, and trees, specifying their absolute position and shape in the 3D space. The semantic interpretation of the measurement data is based on deep learning using an artificial neural network (ANN). The ANN has been specially trained to identify urban infrastructure objects and assign an object class to each data point. Optionally, the data can be reduced to a semantic 2D map to minimize data size. If required, the image data is automatically anonymized in real time before being saved.
