Contactless temperature measurement

Miniaturized thermopile array sensors are playing an increasingly important role in temperature measurement. Due to their highly sensitive and non-contact measurement method, they have the potential to revolutionize numerous areas of application. Their speed and easy usability make them suitable for a wide range of applications.

Production – monitoring the temperature of processes and machines

Thermopile sensors are applied during process monitoring to determine the temperature of machines, components, or production processes without contact. The contactless monitoring is especially beneficial in high-temperature environments, under extreme conditions, or when dealing with moving or hard-to-reach parts. Thermopiles enable a quick and precise measurement of temperature or temperature changes.

Medicine – measuring body temperature safely and hygienically

In medical technology, thermopile sensors are used to monitor body temperature. They do not require contact with the skin and therefore provide a safe and hygienic way to measure the patient's temperature quickly, accurately, and with ease.

Environment – displaying surface temperatures or gas concentrations

In the field of environmental sensor technology, thermopiles are primarily used for non-contact temperature measurement of surfaces as well as for gas sensor technology and thermal imaging. Thermopiles use the selective infrared absorption of target gases to determine their concentration in the environment. Several thermopile sensors can be combined into an array to be used as an »infrared camera«. They can, for example, display location- and time-resolved temperature distributions on buildings, photovoltaic systems, or machines.
